Our Solution Story
Bobby Dodd Stadium at the Georgia Institute of Technology is the oldest on-campus stadium in the NCAA’s Division I-A and is home to the Yellow Jackets, a perennial powerhouse in ACC football. Knowing that motivating the players is a key ingredient in a home victory, the athletics department hired dB Integrations to create a hype tunnel for the players to pass through en route to the field, maximizing enthusiasm and energy before the first kickoff. The many Georgia natives at dB were eager to help out one of our state’s home teams, outfitting Georgia Tech’s historic stadium for 21st-century football dominance.
Total System
AUDIO + VIDEO + LIGHTING + CONTROL
Georgia Tech’s athletics department wished to create an immersive experience for varsity football players entering the stadium. The dB Integrations team designed and built a multifaceted system of lights, audio, and video, all programmed with easy-to-manage controls that don’t require an engineering degree (although there are plenty of those walking around the Tech campus!).
Between the Jackets’ locker room and the field entrance, the football team passes through a corridor that runs underneath the stands. Georgia Tech’s athletics department saw this space as a prime opportunity to amp up the players before the first kickoff and as they return to the field after halftime.
Lighting
Players entering the space are greeted with animated lights, pulsing in rhythm with the music flooding the tunnel. The lighting system is programmed to highlight the Georgia Tech colors (and never to display the bulldog red of rival UGA!).
Audio
The sound system is built around two Danley SM-80 speakers and a single TH-118 subwoofer, arranged so that a high SPL wall of sound hits the players as soon as they exit the locker room, with the lights and audio set up to work in synchronization.
video
A drop-down 14-foot projection screen, with a Panasonic HD projector mounted in the ceiling, contributes to the immersive experience. Finally, a hazer produces a rock-concert smoke effect, spurring these elite athletes into a run as they spill out onto the field to the cheers of the fans.
control
All components of this integrated system are controlled from one rack, programmed to work together with the push of a single button. The operator can simply plug in a laptop (or other source) to provide the chosen music.
Recap
Whether it’s a championship season or a rebuilding year, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will all take the field with their game faces on, thanks to the most high-tech spirit tunnel in the ACC!
