Our Solution Story

Originally built in 1965, Colony Square is the oldest high-rise development in Midtown Atlanta and the first mixed-use development in the Southeast. In 2017, North American Properties sought to reimagine Colony Square Mall into an open-air, mixed-use community by improving the site’s physical connectivity to the street level and serving as a destination of its own. The project was completed over four years in a four-phase construction project.

North American Properties chose dB Integrations to update and integrate the audio, video, control, and display technologies across the entire 200,000 square feet of ground-level public realm spaces and office lobbies to add value, flexibility and functionality to clients, tenants and staff.

AUDIO + VIDEO + CONTROL

North American Properties chose dB Integrations to update and integrate the audio, video, control, and display technologies across the entire 200,000 square feet of ground-level plazas and lobbies to add value, flexibility and functionality to clients, patrons and staff.

Audio

Audio

dB installed a variety of speakers throughout the complex to create an interconnected system across 30 zones. Because of the various uses and types of installations, North American Properties trusted dB to procure the appropriate speakers for each area, ranging from Danley OS80 and OS115 speakers above the stage to Bose FreeSpace 360P II for landscape applications. In total, dB selected and installed more than 70 speakers across the property, powered by QSC and Danley amplifiers throughout the property.

VIDEO

The centerpiece of the video system at Colony Square is a 22’ by 12’ Planar LED display mounted above the outdoor plaza. HDMI inputs in the vicinity of displays allow local performers or presenters to control the display locally, while additional HDMI inputs at other locations across the property would allow remote viewing of performances elsewhere on the property. Various video sources, either local or across the network, can be sent to this display via the Q-sys system.

control

The Q-sys Control System is the foundation of the audio and video system across the property. dB created a custom interface that allows property managers to control audio input and volume in 30 separate zones on the property; individual zones can be set to a specific input or the same input can be used across multiple zones.

All audio processing and routing (distribution) as well as video distribution and control of stage lighting is managed in Q-sys. There are two touch panels on the property: one in the Security Office where the Core is located, the other at Concierge. Management can also access the control system from a smartphone or tablet wirelessly throughout the property. Network interface panels are located in each of the outdoor greenspace areas on the property, allowing sound from live performances to be broadcast either locally or across all zones.

Recap

dB’s audio and video solution at Colony Square provides North American Properties with a comprehensive solution that allows for flexibility and customization across the property. dB’s installation gives property managers the ability to efficiently adjust to the varying demands of such an expansive property with ease.
