Our Solution Story

Originally built in 2003, Birkdale Village was acquired by North American Properties in 2020. Immediately, NAP began transforming the property to become a modern-day community gathering place featuring a collection of upscale outdoor lounge areas, a full-service Concierge and Valet, and new retail, restaurant and experiential offerings.

North American Properties chose dB Integrations to update and integrate the audio, video, lighting and control technologies across the shared spaces in the open-air community, which houses 250,000 square feet of retail space, 320 multifamily housing units and 50,000 square feet of office space.

Control

The Q-sys Control System is the foundation of the audio, video and lighting systems across the property. dB created a custom interface that allows property managers to control audio input and volume in separate zones on the property; individual zones can be set to a specific input or the same input can be used across multiple zones.
All audio processing and routing (distribution), video distribution as well as control of stage lighting is managed in Q-sys. Management can access the control system from a smartphone or tablet wirelessly throughout the property. Network interface panels are located at the stage so performers can input directly into the audio system.

Audio

dB installed Danley Mini 180 speakers on the lamp posts lining the main street of the community. These speakers provide 180° of coverage, allowing for complete coverage of sidewalks on both sides of the property. Additionally, dB installed Danley SM100B speakers on the newly-constructed performance stage to provide concert-quality sound for events.

Video

Behind the stage, dB installed an 18’x10’ outdoor, 8mm pixel pitch LED screen from Unilumen. A Visionary Solutions video encoder at the stage allows for presentations alongside digital signage, cable television signals and a Blu-Ray player. Visionary Solutions decoders are used to route video signals from the various sources to the screen, with the ability to expand to additional screens in the future. Video routing is controlled through the Q-Sys system.

Lighting

dB installed performance lighting at the stage area, then integrated existing LED understage lighting and Tivoli string lighting. Now all lights can be adjusted in the Q-Sys control system; additionally, all lights can be programmed for holiday scenes and sequences.
