Floyd Medical Center is an acute-care hospital and regional referral in Rome, serving patients across northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama. As the region’s largest employer, Floyd Medical is much more than beds and operating rooms. Its Stuenkel Conference Center requires state-of-the-art technology for the use of practitioners of its 40+ medical specialties.
We collaborated with Floyd Medical to define needs and goals and design a system that will deliver the best solution. Key factors were:
dB has provided AV solutions for Floyd Medical Center for many years in a variety of spaces, from patient suites to training and conference rooms, including the original installation for this conference room in 2006.
Floyd Medical approached dB Integrations in 2015 about renovating the Stuenkel Conference Center to upgrade its audio, video, and control technologies.
We upgraded the room’s analog matrix video system, including three projectors, to a full HD system. This new system features a Samsung 95-inch center TV, 75-inch left/right TVs, and a Crestron DigitalMedia matrix switcher, which allows any source to be routed to any display. Three Crestron transmitters around the conference table provide input connections for presenters. Other video sources in the AV rack include a Blu-ray player, Aurora HDTV tuner and a PC input.
dB added a wireless presentation and collaboration hub by Kramer to the existing Crestron system, enabling presenters to connect to the room’s video and audio systems wirelessly and without a login process. Now multiple presenters can be connected to the system at the same time, and guest presenters are not granted too much access to the hospital’s critical networks. An administrator can simply select which presenter’s content to display on the screens and can display content from up to four different sources simultaneously in a split-screen layout.
We added more functionality to the existing multi-zone lighting control by installing a Crestron motion sensor. Now the lights turn on automatically whenever someone enters the room and turn off after a period of inactivity, conserving energy. The motion sensor also triggers the central TV screen to turn on and display the Floyd Medical logo – a real “wow” factor for both staff and visitors.
All AV and lighting systems are easily controlled using a wall-mounted Crestron touch panel or a virtual touch-panel on a PC.
Floyd Medical is thrilled with the results of our work. The Stuenkel Conference Center was already very popular, but with the new technology it stays consistently booked on the meeting calendar. The room’s capabilities also enable it to function as a Regional Emergency Management facility in times of severe weather or security threats.
